Jenna-Katheryn Heinemann is a New York City–based artist who completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts at Concordia University in 2020. Working primarily in sculpture, she explores form through material and composition, focusing on ceramics, wood, and metal. Her practice draws on critical theory to investigate alternative kinship structures, engaging viewers through abstract forms that prompt questions about identity, memory, and history. Her current work centers on themes of migration, colonial dynamics, and memory, particularly examining her family’s emigration from Suriname under Dutch colonial rule to Canada. With relatives spanning three continents, she seeks to create new family heirlooms that are both functional and metaphorical. These sculptures act as archives, preserving familial histories while exploring the relationship between memory and material. Her work has been exhibited across Canada, and in May 2025 she completed a residency at the Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark.
